Diameter and Radius

Some students find it hard to distinguish between diameter and radius, and the relationship between them.

The following might help:

  1. Diameter is the longer word compared to radius; therefore diameter is the longer length.

  2. Referencing the hands of a clock, dinner time is at 6pm (D in dinner for Diameter, runs from one end of the circle to the other end, passing through the centre point), and recess is at 12 noon (R in recess for Radius, runs from one end of the circle to the centre point).

  3. Doubles are two; d = r2

It would be more helpful if students can come up with their own acronyms and mnemonics as well. :)
