This first part of the 6 Times Table series looks at one of the methods to learn the 6 times table. This method builds on the 5 times table fact.

I tried this with one of my students, which did not really turn out as planned. What works for some may not suit others. Anyway, the pattern that can be seen in this method is basically adding running numbers to the 5 times table:

1 x 6 = 5 + 1 = 6

2 x 6 = 10 + 2 = 12

3 x 6 = 15 + 3 = 18

4 x 6 = 20 + 4 = 24

5 x 6 = 25 + 5 = 30

6 x 6 = 30 + 6 = 36

7 x 6 = 35 + 7 = 42

8 x 6 = 40 + 8 = 48

9 x 6 = 45 + 9 = 54

10 x 6 = 50 + 10 = 60

I tried another method with my student and it was much favourably received. Look out for it in Part 2 of the 6 Times Table series. :)
