Be prepared to ditch your lesson plan

I always prepare for my lessons before any tutoring session, and have always followed through on the plan. Recently though, I had to ditch my lesson plan and go with the flow.

My student suggested playing a game that was played at school. Initially, I was not too keen, since I really wanted to cover all that I have prepared. Suddenly, it dawned on me that I was really there to facilitate their learning. I decided to ditch my lesson plan and go with the flow. We enjoyed the game and my student's knowledge of the topic was further consolidated.

Now, I still prepare for my lessons, but I am constantly on the lookout for opportunities to ditch my lesson plan...
